What is it that separates the fearless traveler from the anxiety stricken? And what can be done to help travelers become more comfortable with air travel? Air travel is a relatively new form of technology let alone a mode of transportation. Many potential travelers may subconsciously feel that they don't quite understand how an airplane can actually attain flight which may lead to some of their trepidations. Others' concerns may center on the feeling that they are quite out of control of the mode of transport that if something should go wrong, there is very little that they as a passenger can do to avert a potential disaster. Though these fears actually have a basis in the land of rationality, statistics have proven that time after time air travel is, in fact, safer for the general passenger than any other form of transportation. A few practices can be adopted by phobia stricken travelers to help assist or reduce the amount of stress associated with the thought of prospective travel. Plan the trip according to the most desirable outcome for your particular needs. Try to prevent multiple stops as the most stressful part of any flight is the take off and landing. Once airborne, flights are able to level off and proceed in a comfortable fashion. Bring along plenty of comforting and distracting materials such as reading material or music that you find settling. The more that a traveler can make their surroundings like that of home the more comfortable they are likely to be. Avoid alcohol or drugs as coping mechanisms. These crutches that many travelers lean on actually heighten the over all anxiety attached to the traveling experience. |
