Alternative Detergentshome > alternative health > alternative detergentsAn out-and-out arsenal of chemicals and harsh substances most likely sits within your kitchen cabinets or out in your garage right now defeating your goals of healthy living. It is astounding that so many products exist that are so caustic and yet are quite unregulated. These toxic detergents can range anywhere from aerosol air fresheners to more complex cleaners and disinfectants that are a dangerous inclusion in personal living quarters. Many far less harsh products are available from health food stores and conventional markets. Choosing these products over conventional cleaners is a wise choice for a couple of reasons. First, they are free of caustic chemicals, ingredients and synthetic fragrances. And second, commercial detergents can come with a weighted price tag. Today, more and more families are turning to and finding success with less processed products, even within the confines of a thin budget. Healthy and affordable domestic living does not need to be an oxymoron. For example, an effective and affordable detergent for kitchens or bathrooms can be made from a combination of white vinegar, distilled or filtered water and several drops of an essential oil such as tea tree, citrus or mint. Or, by combining some baking soda, a little liquid castile soap and a preferential essential oil can create an effective and nontoxic scrub for wash basins and tubs. By creating your very own natural cleansers, you eliminate the worries of commercial household cleaners as well as the expense associated with the purchase of the more gentle detergents on the market. The personal rewards reaped from using your own cleaners are immense. The human body can only take so much exposure from contact with caustic substances before its health begins to deteriorate. With all of the harsh substances that we are exposed to in our daily lives the need to reduce that contact in the home is becoming increasingly more important with regard to personal health concerns. |
